Enrolments in government-subsidised training have dropped by 13 per cent in the Loddon Mallee region since Labor came to office new data has revealed.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said the 2015 Half Yearly Training Market Report showed TAFEs were receiving less funding under Daniel Andrews.
“Enrolments in government-subsidised training in the Loddon Mallee region which includes Echuca Cohuna Kerang and Swan Hill have collapsed under Daniel Andrews “ Mr Walsh said.
“There are now around 2 200 fewer government-subsidised enrolments in the region compared to this time last year and all while youth unemployment is a major concern.
“It is the lowest number of government-subsidised enrolments in the Loddon Mallee in five years.
“Daniel Andrews promised to provide an extra $1.2 billion to TAFE and create 100 000 new full-time jobs in Victoria but instead we are going backwards.
“Under Labor TAFEs are receiving less funding for training not more and that means less local students are getting the training they need for the career they want.”
Shadow Minister for Training Skills and Apprenticeships said the Andrews Labor Government had been hiding the training data for months before silently releasing it online.
“These figures were hidden because they show Labor’s promises before the election to increase TAFE funding and grow enrolments were lies “ Ms Ryan said.
