Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh joined with volunteer firefighters at Cohuna today to support their entitlement to assistance under any future presumptive legislation.
Mr Walsh called on Premier Daniel Andrews to deliver legislation that does not discriminate against the men and women in Victoria’s volunteer brigades who protect our communities.
As Leader of The Nationals I am proud to make this pledge to all CFA volunteers “ Mr Walsh said.
“We will not support an unfair system that favours career firefighters over volunteers “ he said.
The pledge is:
I will support CFA volunteers with cancer; and
I will vote for non-discriminatory Presumptive Legislation for all Victorian firefighters
This pledge is about providing certainty for Victoria’s hardworking volunteer firefighters and their families
“It recognises the risks faced by our local firefighters who work on the frontline to keep our communities safe from the threat of fires and other emergencies “ Mr Walsh said.
Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria which represents volunteer CFA firefighters has launched the campaign to secure proper cover in cancer cases and Mr Walsh said he was pleased to support it.
