Crime across the Campaspe LGA is up nearly 20 per cent on 2015 figures new statistics from Victoria’s Crime Statistics Agency has revealed.
In the Agency’s annual report released on Thursday Campaspe LGA recorded a 19.5 per cent increase in crime between June 2015 and June 2016.
Total offences were up to 3575 from 2992 at the same time last year.
“A 19.5 per cent increase in crime across Campaspe is a worrying trend ” Mr Walsh said.
“Our police work hard but cuts in frontline police and a lack of resources is taking its toll.”
There was a 122.7 per cent increase in crimes against the person in Echuca from 176 offences in 2015 to 392 in 2016.
The breach of court orders which includes family violence orders intervention orders and bail conditions increased significantly in Echuca (up 200 per cent) and Kyabram (up by 118 offences to 131 offences in 2016).
Drug crime in Echuca increased more than 100 per cent while weapons and explosives offences increased by 53 offences to 76 in 2016.
“Daniel Andrews’ soft on crime approach cuts to frontline police and the closure of stations across the state has left our community at risk ” Mr Walsh said.
“Our police are doing their best in difficult circumstances but they must be properly resourced.
“It is up to Daniel Andrews to bring our spiralling crime rate under control.”
