The Member for Murray Plains, Peter Walsh, is urging Returned and Services League (RSL) sub-branches across his electorate to apply for funding to assist with restoring community war memorials, avenues of honour and capital works to upgrade RSL facilities.
Mr Walsh says grants of up to $30,000 are now available to restore war memorials and avenues of honour, while up to $50,000 can be accessed for capital works to build or improve spaces which deliver services to veterans and their families.
“We will be forever grateful for those who have served their country, and our memorials honour those brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for Australia in that service,” Mr Walsh says.
“Last year, and again this year, I have been working with local RSLs to strengthen that connection through the Colin Sinclair Scholarship, which takes local Year II students to Papua-New Guinea to walk the Kokoda Trail and be immersed in its military history and importance to us as a nation,” he says.
“We are hoping these outstanding young future leaders in our community embrace that message and spread it amongst their peers – all the feedback we have received from the 2024 walk certainly shows it has been a very successful project.
“Our RSLs do an amazing job supporting families and veterans through a range of different support services and initiatives and I encourage all our local sub-branches to consider applying for this funding opportunity.”
The Veterans Capital Works and Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour grant programs close on February 3.
