The Nationals Member for Murray Plains, Peter Walsh, says senior secondary students from his electorate have the “incredible opportunity” of a fully funded trip to Gallipoli to gain a hands-on and very up close and personal understanding of the Anzac story.
Mr Walsh is encouraging students in Years 9-12 to enter the 2025 Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize competition – which has been running since 2005.
He says 10 students will be taken to significant war heritage sites in Türkiye and will also connect with veterans and the ex-service community.
“This is a great opportunity for those students and their submissions can be made as an essay, a poem, a short story – or even a musical composition,” Mr Walsh explains.
“The successful applicants will be given the chance to explore Australia’s wartime and peacekeeping history and also understand and remember the contribution of Victorian service people,” he says.
“The Spirit of Anzac Prize study tours aim to connect young Victorians with the legend and spirit of Anzac, which symbolises the courage and sacrifice of Australian service people and there’s no question study tour experiences also broaden a student’s education and personal outlook.”
Winning students will receive a fully funded 11-day overseas study tour, which includes:
- accommodation
- transport
- insurance
- activities
- meals.
Entries close on April 28 and details are available at https://www.vic.gov.au/spirit-anzac-prize-student-competition
