The Nationals will fund a brighter future for students at Cohuna Secondary College contributing to the development of a masterplan to bring the school into the 21st century.
Member for Murray Plains and Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh said The Nationals in government will provide $300 000 to develop a plan that reflects the ideas and future vision of the entire school community.
“The classrooms at Cohuna Secondary College are more than 50 years old and are maintained painted stumped and repaired by the generosity of the school community” Mr Walsh said.
“On a daily basis staff and students are navigating cracks in doors walls and windows dealing with a lack of insulation and facilities built for a 1960s education.
“The Nationals believe all Victorians deserve a quality education no matter where they live and that’s why we’ll kick start the process to bring Cohuna Secondary College into the 21st century.”
Mr Walsh said as well as ensuring classrooms and other school facilities are properly equipped for a modern Victorian education it will also assist in attracting and maintaining teachers.
“Modern education facilities help to attract and retain families to the region” he said.
“Our kids deserve a brighter future”“ regardless of where they live”“ which is why we’ll deliver this funding to plan for a better Cohuna Secondary College.”
This investment adds to The Nationals’ plan for a better deal on education in Regional Victoria.
As well as better schools we’ll also establish the $80 million Brighter Futures Fund to lift education opportunities in rural and regional communities through better support for parents and children in the early years of schooling.
A $16 million in early language and literacy grants program will give our most vulnerable young Victorians a helping hand before they start school.
