The Nationals in government will contribute to construction of the much-wanted Swan Hill to Lake Boga Active Trail Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh has announced.
Mr Walsh met with community members from Swan Hill and Lake Boga to announce $1.46 million to help construct the long-awaited 12.6km walking and cycling trail between Swan Hill and Lake Boga.
“The trail will been a boon for the community creating a unique link between our towns that will help locals and visitors enjoy the fantastic scenery in our region” Mr Walsh said.
“For the local people who want to cycle between Lake Boga and Swan Hill for work the Active Trail will make it safer with a dedicated track for the whole ride away from cars and trucks travelling at 100kmh along the highway.
“This will have a great economic benefit for a whole range of businesses and help showcase our region to visitors making it possible to enjoy a ride with the whole family on a safe dedicated track or head out for a bite to eat or a coffee.
“We’ve long-discussed building an active trail between Swan Hill and Lake Boga and I’m proud to announce today The Nationals in government will help deliver it.”
The sealed trail will combine existing road infrastructure new off-road paths and shared trails adjacent to the existing roads.
The trail will be jointly funded by Swan Hill Rural City Council and The Nationals in government.
It’s expected about 350 people a week will use the trail”“ up to 18 000 people a year. “In addition to encouraging locals to keep active it will be a valuable tourist attraction once complete” Mr Walsh said.
“We all know nothing compares to the beautiful scenery in our region and the Swan Hill to Lake Boga Active Trail will provide a great new opportunity to get out and enjoy it.”
