The Nationals Member for Murray Plains, Peter Walsh, says the Allan Labor government’s latest budget is like the proverbial lucky dip.
Lucky for Premier Allan, he says, with your taxes up to $50 billion – and that’s a whopping rise of 173 per cent since Labor took office.
So Mr Walsh says reach in and take your pick for a real surprise.
And you could find any of the following stunners:
- Land tax up to $6.63 billion and headed for $7 billion next year – and counting.
- Stamp duty up $1 billion to $9.56 billion – and counting.
- Payroll tax up to $9.58 billion – and counting.
- Emergency Services and Volunteers tax up to $1.7 billion – and counting.
- Victoria’s daily interest rate on Premier Allan’s debt up to $28.9 million a day, every day, 365 days a year – and counting.
- Vehicle registration fees up to $2.39 billion – and counting.
- Agriculture funding slashed by $77.6 million – and counting.
- The regional development allocation chopped 17 per cent to $245.6 million – and counting.
“You could choose any one of the 60 new taxes Jacinta Allan has introduced after promising no new taxes, you could ask where the money is to expand the police, fix the roads, improve rail services, help the besieged disabled and aged care sectors,” Mr Walsh adds.
“And the only thing you would get is a load of cleverly crafted government double speak, more empty promises and more taxes – this isn’t a budget, it is a blueprint for disaster,” he says.
“And we will all be paying for that; our children will be paying for that and grandchildren still to be born will be lumbered with it as a legacy of the Allan Labor government’s unparalleled financial incompetence.”
