Two Swan Hill sporting clubs will improve their own safety and security after receiving grants from the 2015-16 Community Safety Fund.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said Swan Hill Football Netball Club and Swan Hill Sporting Car Club have received grants to help improve security and reduce risks of theft and vandalism to club property.
“Local communities are best placed to identify solutions to local problems and the Community Safety Grants provide funding that makes these solutions a reality “ Mr Walsh said.
“Sporting clubs are the heart of our communities and are often managed on small budgets by local volunteers so crime and anti-social behaviour has a significant impact.”
Mr Walsh said the Community Safety Fund was developed under the former Coalition Government as part of the community crime prevention agenda but funding has only been continued for this year under the Melbourne Labor Government.
“It is an important program to make our communities safer and should remain a very high priority for this government “ he said.
Community Safety Fund grants for Swan Hill are:
- Swan Hill Sporting Car Club – $9 985 for the construction of a fence at the Chisholm Reserve motor sports complex in Swan Hill to secure equipment machinery and vehicles and to reduce theft vandalism and damage to club property.
- Swan Hill Football Netball Club Inc – $10 000 for the installation of new glass doors and strengthening of existing windows and external roller doors to deter break-ins at the Swan Hill Football Club
“I commend these two excellent clubs for their ongoing commitment to their membership and the wider community “ Mr Walsh said.
Comments from Alistair Warde President Swan Hill Football Netball Club.
“The security upgrade is important given where the reserve is situated makes it vulnerable to people congregating and some vandalism when unattended.
“The club rooms are old and becoming a little dilapidated and the new security funding will be put to very good use.
“Swan Hill Football Netball Club is extremely appreciative to all those involved in submitting this application.
