Construction of Echuca’s long awaited police station is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks according to Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh.
Mr Walsh visited the site of the new station today with his parliamentary colleague Hon Edward O’Donohue Shadow Minister for Police Corrections and Community Safety.
“The two adjoining properties located at the corner of Sturt and Anstruther Streets were purchased in February 2013 and funding for the new Echuca Police Station was committed in the May 2014 Budget “ Mr Walsh said.
“The planning has progressed well with construction to commence in the near future and to be completed by Christmas 2016.
“This is fantastic news for Echuca and for the 50 local police who have worked in such inadequate and challenging conditions for far too long “ he said.
Shadow Minister for Police Edward O’Donohue said the new location will allow for ease of access for the community to a new modern police complex.
“The new site is virtually in the Echuca CBD and is highly visible in an important strategic position at the border crossing.
