The Leader of the Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh has today launched a petition calling on Parks Victoria to stop denying boating access to Deep Creek and the Murray River at Lower Moira.
The petition refers to the boat ramp located on Murray River Reserve off Woodbine Drive between Echuca and Barmah.
Mr Walsh attended a community meeting recently where fishers and skiers expressed their anger that the gates to the ramp have been locked by Parks Victoria.
“The ramp has been there for 14 years and is the only concrete boat ramp between Barmah and Echuca ” Mr Walsh said.
Mr Walsh said the petition called on the Andrews Labor Government to upgrade the boat ramp and instruct Parks Victoria to stop locking a gate on frontage land that denies access to it.
“This petition will provide everyone in the community who feels passionate about this issue with a very clear avenue to tell the government loudly and clearly what they want ” he said.
“I am appealing to all residents and users of the ramp to make their voice heard where it counts.”
River users and residents are encouraged to email peter.walsh@parliament.vic.gov.au if they are interested in distributing the petition alternatively they can go online at www.peterwalsh.org.au to sign the petition electronically.
Mr Walsh said the signed petitions would be presented to the Victorian Parliament during the sitting week of October 13.
