Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said Kyabram P-12’s $6.75 million allocation in the Victorian Government’s Budget is a win for the school and a great start towards the total funding required.
Mr Walsh said school council chairman Dale Denham and his whole team should be congratulated on their efforts in obtaining funding.
He said every step has been a hard-fought campaign, starting with the fight to keep the school’s Year 9 building – which included then Campaspe Shire councillor Carol Howell threatening to chain herself to the classroom to keep it on site.
The school and its council could see some light at the end of the tunnel in 2019 when it received money for maintenance works and earlier this year another $750,000 to plan the long-overdue upgrade of the whole school.
“The $6.75 million is a welcome down payment for the project, however further funding is required to finalise the development, which I will be calling on the government to provide in their next budget,” Mr Walsh said.
