The Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh visited the Bamawm Recreation Reserve today to congratulate Bamawm Lockington United Cricket Club (BLUCC) President Paul Colbert on receiving a VicHealth Active Club Grant.
The grants providing funding to increase opportunities for Victorians to participate in community sports clubs and this round focused particularly on female participation.
The club will receive $1 500 to help with the cost of protective and playing equipment for the girls.
Mr Walsh said the grant will go a long way to support a new generation of young girls into cricket.
“Junior girls cricket was introduced last season and BLUCC enjoyed a successful season fielding a full team.
“They hope to build on that this year and are now actively recruiting for a second team.
“It’s great to see Paul Colbert and his committee being recognized by VicHealth for the proactive role they have taken in supporting girls participation in the great game of cricket.
“It’s a really good news story” Mr Walsh said.
“Mr Colbert who is an experienced administrator and cricket coach said he was very proud of the girls achievements.
He said senior womens cricket will also be introduced into the association this year and is anticipated to go from strength to strength.
“I am looking forward to seeing BLUCC junior girls eventually transitioning into the senior teams and enjoying their cricket for many years to come.”
