Community members of the Murray Plains Electorate involved with veterans groups are invited to apply for funding to renew or repair their local war memorials through the Restoring Community War Memorials Grants program.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is encouraging all RSL clubs local councils ex-service organisations not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions to apply for grants up to $20 000.
“Local war memorials avenues of honour and honour rolls are more than just local dedications they are an important way of thanking remembering and honouring local men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedoms we enjoy ” Mr Walsh said.
“They also provide an important place for veterans their families and friends as well as the wider community to gather to reflect on the impact of war and ensure local ANZAC legends and their stories of courage and mateship are never forgotten ” he said.
Mr Walsh said eligible projects for the program could include repairs to broken statues barriers fences foundations or other parts of memorials and repairs to honour rolls.
Applications for the Restoring Community War Memorials Grants open on the 28th November 2016 and close on 14th February 2017.
