Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is calling for increased police presence and numbers in Kyabram.
Mr Walsh backed his call with statistics showing that between 2014 and 2016 under the Andrews Labor government crime in Kyabram has risen 55%.
“The lack of adequate police resources and a dramatic spike in the crime rate in Kyabram has left residents living in fear and businesses reeling at the whim of drug induced crime “ Mr Walsh said.
“Just last week the Kyabram Golf Club was broken into for the fourth time this year.”
Mr Walsh said police resources in Kyabram were terribly understaffed for the region they have to cover and unfortunately the whole district was suffering.
“Kyabram needs adequate resourcing to have a more visible police presence on the streets and stop crime happening in the first instance “ Mr Walsh said.
He said Kyabram is damning evidence that the city centric Premier Andrews is dismally failing country people on law and order.
“He claims he is keeping Victorians safe but the statistics show that under his watch the fabric of country communities is in fact being torn apart “ Mr Walsh said.
