Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh today gave his total support to the Country Fire Authority following the announcement that it would not be merged with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
Mr Walsh said he was pleased the government had decided not to merge the CFA and MFB boards following the release of the Fire Services Review.
“Let’s see now whether Daniel Andrews sticks to his word.”
“He said hand on heart that he wouldn’t tear up the East West Link contract and he did and he said it wouldn’t cost Victorians a $ and it cost them $1.1billion.”
Mr Walsh said he had concerns the union would take control of the CFA if the merger proceeded.
“We have seen the two ambulance services amalgamated and country people suffered.
“The CFA needs to remain separate from the MFB and I fully support the CFA continuing with a stand-alone board.”
Mr Walsh said he would continue to give his support to the CFA and its vital role throughout regional Victoria.
“Supporting the CFA and its many dedicated volunteers in the very important work that they do is the priority.
“Throughout the Murray Plains electorate and across regional Victoria the CFA is a pivotal part of our towns and communities.”
