Young people from across Victoria who want the opportunity to influence Victorian law have the opportunity to do so as part of the YMCA Youth Parliament program Member for Murray Plains and Leader of the Nationals Peter Walsh said today.
Mr Walsh said applications for the 2015 Victorian Youth Parliament Program were now open to interested young people between the ages of 16-25.
“The YMCA Youth Parliament Program provides young people with an insight into government and gives participants the opportunity to debate and express their views and participate in the parliamentary process.
“This is a great opportunity to hear what the young people of today consider are major issues of concern “ Mr Walsh said.
“It is also an opportunity for them to put forward their own ideas for possible solutions to those issues “ he said.
Since 1987 Parliament of Victoria has supported a two-day Parliament organized by the YMCA and the youth “parliamentarians” from across the state gather in Parliament House to debate “Bills” dealing with issues of interest and importance to them.
“Youth Parliament develops the skills of our future leaders in debating public speaking and team building and builds their confidence and self-esteem.
“I encourage participation from across the electorate and look forward to seeing some strong representation from Murray Plains “ Mr Walsh said.
