The Nationals Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is appalled that a violent combat style competition staged in a cage has been given the go ahead by the Andrews Labor Government.
“In government the Liberal Nationals Coalition was strongly focussed on preventing all forms of violence in Victoria and that definitely included cage fighting “ Mr Walsh said
“It is incredulous that one of Daniel Andrews’ handon-heart election policies was the prevention of family violence yet within a week of being elected he gave cage fighting the green light.
“What good can come from two grown men locked in a cage with the specific aim to brutally belt each other into physical submission?”
In an environment where abuse of alcohol and drugs is scourging our society and the resulting incidence of violence is increasing dramatically Mr Walsh said he strongly believed violent cage fighting was completely out of step with community sentiment.
“It’s defies logic that a government that recently announced a Royal Commission into Family Violence has at the same time introduced to young Victorians a spectacle of extreme violence masked in the name of sport “ Mr Walsh said.
