Talented young sportspeople in the region have the opportunity to access travel assistance grants according to Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh MP.
Mr Walsh said that applications are now being sought under the 2018/19 Athlete Pathway Travel Grant Program.
The program assists athletes coaches officials and teams with the travel costs of participating in training and competition and high performance Victorian athletes and teams to compete at national championships or selection events.
There are two categories of grants available :
Category 1: State Sporting Associations or state sporting organisations and peak bodies recognized by Sport and Recreation Victoria can apply for up to five grants per funding round on behalf of Victorian teams or individuals for travel to compete at national championships and/or an event or series of events constituting national selection trails. Grants of up to $6 000 are available for teams with a maximum of $1 000 per team member. Grants for individuals are available up to a maximum of $2 000
Category 2: Victorian community organisations delivering sport and active recreation opportunities can apply for up to two grants per funding round of $750 each to assist athletes coaches officials and teams with the travel costs of training and competition. A maximum of two grants will be approved to any organisation in any calendar year.
“Unfortunately many country athletes and families find it difficult to meet the cost of travelling to sporting events for competition and training.” Mr Walsh said.
“This program is an excellent opportunity to nurture our emerging young talent across the Murray Plains electorate and to encourage them to pursue their sporting dreams.”
