An elected Liberal Nationals Government will create a $1 billion Decentralisation Fund focused on delivering more investment jobs and opportunity for the Latrobe Valley and across Regional Victoria.
The flow-on effect of job losses and insecurity following the closure of Hazelwood Power Station a significant employer in the Valley means now more than ever the Valley needs a government with a plan to grow all of Victoria.
Leader of The Nationals and Shadow Minister for Regional Victoria and Decentralisation Peter Walsh was in Traralgon today with The Nationals candidate for Morwell Sheridan Bond and Liberal candidate for Morwell Dale Harriman to visit local businesses.
The Valley is ideally placed to benefit from the Liberal Nationals’ plans to decentralise our state and attract more people to live in regional areas not just Melbourne.
Targeted support from the $1 billion Decentralisation Fund will include a return of the Putting Locals First Fund which will help put communities in control of their future and support small local groups like service clubs and sporting clubs to upgrade their facilities.
Today the Liberal Nationals have announced plans to establish the Victorian Resource Assessment Commission (VRAC) as an independent body to give government advice on resource projects in Victoria.
VRAC would be modeled on the Victorian Environmental Assessment Commission (VEAC) to focus on strategic resource needs and provide independent advice to government on resource quarry and mining matters.
A Liberal Nationals Government will also better support regional businesses by cutting regional payroll tax to 1 per cent and connect Traralgon and Melbourne with high-speed passenger rail slashing travel times to 62 minutes down from 2 hours 12 minutes.
Our plans for decentralisation will help deliver the new jobs and investment certainty the Valley desperately needs.
Only a Liberal Nationals Government will provide more opportunities to invest and create jobs in the Latrobe Valley through our plans to drive growth across Regional Victoria.

Regional Victoria is missing out under Daniel Andrews while unplanned unmanaged population growth in Melbourne spirals out of control.
Daniel Andrews still has no plan to manage our state’s population growth. Only the Liberal Nationals have a plan to make our state a state of cities where regional communities like those in the Latrobe Valley thrive.
Comment attributable to The Nationals candidate for Morwell Sheridan Bond
The Valley’s missed out after four years of a city-centric Labor Government that’s abandoned our community and the key industries we rely on.
I want to see our workers feel secure in their jobs and for businesses to have confidence to invest and grow which is exactly what our plans for decentralisation will deliver.
There’s so much opportunity for more jobs and investment in the Valley we deserve a better deal.
Comment attributable to Liberal candidate for Morwell Dale Harriman
Our plan for decentralisation will create jobs and investment opportunities in the Latrobe Valley.
We’ve been let down by Daniel Andrews and Labor in favour of their friends at The Greens who would rather close our key industries than support them.
This investment will make sure all of Victoria including the Latrobe Valley benefits from population growth.
