Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh has congratulated the Echuca Specialist School community for securing a long overdue funding pledge from the State Government.
“Every budget since 2015 has been so disappointing but this community has refused to give up and we’ve raised the school’s plight at every opportunity in order to finally secure this funding pledge” Mr Walsh said.
“Today is a victory for students their families and the whole school community but we’ll be keeping a close watch on the Andrews Labor Government to make sure it’s not a hollow promise.
“The Minister has released $850 000 immediately for detailed planning and we now will expect the State Government to put the remainder of the $16.7 million pledged today into the Pre-Election Budget Update that Treasury will release publicly in early November.
“Then we will know if Daniel Andrews is serious about this commitment.
“The students families staff and community of Echuca Specialist School deserve safe and modern facilities and I will keep fighting with them until we achieve that.”
Peter Walsh has already committed a future Liberal Nationals Government to delivering the new Echuca Specialist School.
