The 4 kilometers of dusty gravel road that leads to the Wandella Recreation Reserve made its way to State Parliament last week.
The Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh MP told the Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan that Wandella Football Club is the only club in country Victoria that is actually on a gravel road.
Mr Walsh said the Wandella Bombers is a very strong club in the Golden Rivers Football Netball League.
“On Tuesday and Thursday nights and every second Saturday there is a lot of traffic on the road and conditions can be treacherous particularly on dark wet winter nights.
“Despite this very challenging gravel road that families need to transverse to get to training and games the club has been very successful and won a lot of finals over the journey.
“If the Liberal Nationals were still in government the road works would have been completed under the Country Roads and Bridge Program.
“The Labor Government was elected and country roads since that time have been sadly neglected.”
“I ask the Minister to make an allocation of money to the Shire of Gannawarra so that this dangerous piece of country road can be sealed and made much safer before a tragedy occurs”
“It seems little to ask when compared to the $225 million of taxpayers’ money that the Andrews Labor Government recently handed to the AFL to build a hotel and ballroom at Etihad Stadium” Mr Walsh said.
The Minister in response encouraged an application for funding which he said he would be happy to consider.
