Member for Murray Plains and Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh has called for nominations for the 2015 Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll.
“The Honour Roll recognizes Aboriginal people who have made a real and lasting contribution to their communities and to Victoria “ Mr Walsh said
The Echuca aboriginal community has strength in its leadership having been inspired and motivated by several successful nominations.
Aunty Melva Johnson in particular has been a true local nomination. She came to the Echuca community in 1945 and since that time has been a tireless champion for aboriginal education and health.
Her nomination talked of her lifelong mission to change minds and reform thinking all the time representing her family her people and the greater community with dignity and respect.
“I encourage both the aboriginal and the wider community to identify local aboriginal people who are deserving of being nominated for the Honour Roll.
“It offers a great opportunity to recognize the achievements of inspirational Aboriginal people who have made important contributions to our community “ Mr Walsh said.
