Local clubs and organisations are encouraged to apply for up to $10 000 of funding to improve security at their clubrooms or facility.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said the Community Safety Fund provided groups and sporting clubs with money to install safety equipment such as additional locks vandal-proof lighting alarms fencing and gates and security screen.
“These grants established by the former Liberal Nationals Coalition Government help community organisations to bolster security at their facilities to prevent damage and create a safer environment for their members and the wider community “ Mr Walsh said.
Mr Walsh said that the grants had assisted many local clubs and organisations over the years.
“A great example is a local primary school that received a grant to build a secure bike storage facility that could be locked during school times to deny access to potential thieves.
“I encourage all community clubs and organisations to apply for their share of the money.” Mr Walsh said.
In addition to providing new security equipment the grants can also be used for the following projects:
- Education and awareness initiatives that help prevent motor vehicle theft personal property and residential theft and retail burglaries; and
- Small-scale improvements and upgrades in public spaces including parks and reserves and streetscapes to encourage more foot traffic.
Mr Walsh said applications were open to community and sporting groups and councils until 4pm on Friday 1 July.
