Local sporting clubs in the Swan Hill area will receive funding as part of the first round of VicHealth’s 2015-16 Active Club Grants program.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh Nationals Member said the grants help clubs with expenses that are necessary but sometimes not justifiable through tight budgets.
“It is vital that sporting clubs which are in many ways the social backbone of our rural communities are provided with this kind of support ” Mr Walsh said.
“Research shows that sport builds community pride and loyalty and offers people the chance to get involved providing them with a positive sense of self-worth.
“These grants aim to make clubs safer and more accessible by funding essential equipment like bats portable goals uniforms and balls.”
VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said VicHealth was proud to continue to support local sporting organisations..
“VicHealth is committed to addressing the rising obesity levels in Victoria and as part of this we want to make physical activity participation part of everyday living “ Ms Rechter said.
“Sports and active recreation clubs are a terrific way to get involved in the community meet new people and keep active for good health.”
The successful clubs are :
Swan Hill Football Netball Club $3 000 for competition playing uniforms
Swan Hill RSL Cricket Club $3 000 equipment and uniforms for juniors
SwanHill Table Tennis Assoc Inc $2 999 equipment and first aid kit
Nyah Two Bays Swimming Club $2 999 paddles flippers and pace clock
Nyah West Tennis Club $2 490 tennis balls and nets
