The Kyabram community has responded with overwhelming support for a petition for an increased police presence in the town with over 1 600 signatures collected in a four week campaign.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said the community’s response to the issue and their support of the petition had been enormous.
Mr Walsh said under Labor regional communities that were once known for excellent public safety and small town charm had experienced huge increases in the crime rate.
“Sadly under Daniel Andrews and his Labor government that quality of life has been severely eroded “ Mr Walsh said.
“As a direct result of Daniel Andrews soft on crime policies Kyabram has experienced a dramatic spike in the crime rate and the community has been left vulnerable.”
Mr Walsh was in Kyabram today to collect the signatures which he will present to State Parliament next week.
“The very essence of keeping crime out of our community is crime prevention and stopping crime as soon as it happens “ Mr Walsh said.
“The Kyabram community has taken a stand. It’s time the Andrews Labor Government listens to our community and takes urgent action to increase police numbers and visible police presence on the streets.”
