Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is encouraging CFA brigades from across the Murray Plains electorate to apply for funding to attract and retain volunteers.
In what Mr Walsh has called”too little too late” the Melbourne Labor Government has announced the Enhancing Volunteerism Grants Program.
The program offers grants to individual brigades with no minimum or maximum amount and grants to groups of at least 10 brigades of up to $250 000.
“Our country volunteers are dedicated to their communities but the Melbourne Labor Government’s sustained attack on the CFA has seen confidence plunge” Mr Walsh said.
“I have spoken with many CFA volunteers who have expressed their disgust with the shabby way in which they have been treated by Daniel Andrews. They are seriously questioning their ongoing commitment to the CFA.
“Daniel Andrews hypocrisy knows no bounds and one can’t help but see the irony in this funding announcement but I do encourage local brigades to use the program to counter the devastating impact the events of the last 12 months has had on current and more particularly on future CFA membership.”
Funding can help cover items such as marquees tables chairs and fridges medium rigid licence training for members or events to thank volunteers and local community members for support.
