Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains enjoyed the opportunity to
welcome the Gannawarra Future Leaders Youth Forum to State Parliament this week.
“I had the pleasure of meeting a group of outstanding young people from my
Electorate “ Mr Walsh said.
The Gannawarra Future Leaders Youth Council was at Parliament House to participate in Youth Parliament.
“The team members were involved in an MPI (Matter of Public Importance) debate and they also presented strong arguments to a Bill calling for increased conditions of parole for violent offenders and made contributions to the Adjournment Debate.
“The strength of the team was acknowledged with their leader Mikayla Penrose being elected as a Chamber Leader – a tangible recognition of her strong leadership skills “ Mr Walsh said.
The Youth Council is a Gannawarra Shire Council initiative which has been in operation since 2008.
It aims to bring Gannawarra youth to the table as active and progressive participants around youth issues in the shire and beyond.
One of the key local initiatives that has evolved from the Youth Forum is the new skate park and impressive development of Atkinson Park Kerang.
“The young people come up with great ideas and give me a fresh focus to work towards “ Mr Walsh said.
“I am very proud of the group that came to Melbourne and I look forward to working with
them in the future to further develop their leadership skills.
“From what I witnessed on Monday Gannawarra is in very safe hands “ he said.
