In the lead up to the May State Budget Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is again calling on the Andrews Labor Government to allocate additional infrastructure funding to the Echuca Schools Regeneration Project.
Mr Walsh said the Andrews Labor Government has critically underfunded the community plan for this new education precinct bringing together the Echuca South School the Echuca West School and the Echuca Specialist School on a greenfields site.
“It is very disappointing that Labor continues to turn a blind eye to the urgent need for new facilities to educate students from Echuca Specialist School “ Mr Walsh said.
“Their current facilities are unacceptable and the students and teachers deserve much better.”
Mr Walsh said the Liberal-Nationals Coalition in government made a pre-election commitment to the merger of Echuca South Echuca West and Echuca Specialist School totalling $25 million.
It has been very disappointing that Labor has not matched this commitment even more disappointing that they have taken a decision to complete the project in stages effectively leaving the specialist school behind” he said
“While Daniel Andrews dreams up ideological rubbish to scrutinize gender stereotyping in children’s fairytales country students with special needs are educated in substandard facilities which are passed off as classrooms.
“All young people deserve quality learning environments and it is incredulous that students with special needs are the ones who have been compromised by Daniel Andrews in the progress of Echuca Schools Regeneration Project “ Mr Walsh said.
