Daniel Andrews is denying justice and closure to the families of murder victims by refusing to pass the No Body No Parole reforms Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh says.
New laws put forward in the Liberal-Nationals’ Private Members’ Bill “No Body No Parole” would require convicted murderers to give up the location of their victims’ bodies if they ever want a chance at parole.
The Bill passed the Upper House last week but was defeated in the Lower House when Labor the Greens and Independent Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed voted against it.
Mr Walsh said the reforms would give much-needed support and closure to the families of murder victims and called on Premier Daniel Andrews to do the right thing by Victorians.
“The families who would benefit from these reforms have been through enough horror and heartbreak and the last thing they need is to be denied the dignity of a final goodbye to their loved one “ Mr Walsh said.
“The Liberal-Nationals are standing up for victims through these significant reforms.
“Victoria is experiencing a dramatic increase in crime yet Daniel Andrews is refusing to get tough on criminals who are doing so much harm in our communities.
“Daniel Andrews is quick to push through back-door deals for his union mates but will not support those Victorians who need it the most.”
