Reading Is My Secret Power is the theme of Book Week 2019 that is being celebrated in schools across the Murray Plains electorate this week.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said he was pleased to be invited by Kyabram Early Learning Centre to read a book of his choosing to the children
“I have chosen Ella and the Ocean” by Australian author Lian Tanner and illustrated by Jonathan Bentley,” Mr Walsh said.
The book is written in language that is easily relatable to young children and it tells the iconic Australian story of drought and life on the land.
“The farm children are taken on a holiday to the sea through Ella’s dreams that are enhanced by the superb illustrations in the book.
“The secret power in the story occurs when the children return home to the farm with a rejuvenated appreciation and understanding of country life and a renewed hope that the land they love will rebound when the rains inevitably come.”
Mr Walsh commended the teachers and parents who have embraced Book Week with an enthusiasm that connects primary school children of all ages and interests.
“The celebrations, costumes and excitement are a most important initiative to encourage a love of literature and life long learning,” Mr Walsh said.
