Murray Plains residents have until the 15 January 2018 to make submissions to a Parliamentary Inquiry into VicRoads’ management of country roads.
The Law Reform Road and Community Safety Committee is examining a number of issues as part of its inquiry including VicRoads’ effectiveness in managing country roads the existing funding model and it’s lack of effectiveness for country Victoria lack of consultation with regional communities and the option of dismantling VicRoads and creating a specific Country Roads organisation.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said the inquiry is an important opportunity for communities across the electorate who rely on well-maintained country roads to conduct their daily lives.
“Our country roads are crumbling and each day the growing risk to public safety increases.
“I am appealing to all country drivers who have had a bad experience driving on country roads to make their voices heard through this public inquiry” Mr Walsh said.
The inquiry will gather evidence from open hearings across the state from the public and a range of experts and will have the authority to question Members of Parliament Ministers and departmental staff.
