Member for Murray Plains and Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh is urging the Melbourne
Labor Government to recommit the funding for the new river crossing at Echuca in the May budget.
“Prior to the November 2014 election the Liberal Nationals Coalition committed $96 million for the Echuca-Moama bridge project “ Mr Walsh said.
“The money was included in the Pre-election Budget Update and is therefore built into the forward estimates.
“The people of northern Victoria could rightly be very angry with the Melbourne Labor government should it find a reason to abandon this desperately needed major infrastructure project.
“Daniel Andrews is tearing up contracts and squandering millions of dollars to build nothing in Melbourne and his first 100 days in government has not been good for northern Victoria.”
The Environment Effects Statement (EES) will be released for public consultation shortly and this is the last step in the process before the Minister for Planning prepares an assessment and recommendations deciding whether to approve the project under Victorian law Mr Walsh said.
“Daniel Andrews has said he will govern for all Victorians and the people of Murray Plains want to see him actually fund a major project in northern Victoria.”
