Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh has again pressured the State Government to finalise the sale of Rochester’s iconic, but neglected, Random House.
In conversations with Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan last week, the Minister gave assurances that there was just one final round of consultation to be held and, no issues arising, the property will finally be put on the market.
“The community has made it very clear in the three years we’ve been fighting this campaign that we want to see Random House sold to a new owner so it’s cared for and restored to its former glory,” Mr Walsh said.
“The Minister has given me a commitment that there’s just one round of consultation left before our historic house will finally be put on the market.
“This process has dragged on too long and we’ll be holding the Government to its word.”
The long-awaited sale has been delayed for years with no progress since the Andrews Government promised in July that a sale was “imminent”.
In recent months, Random House has been targeted by vandals and a lack of maintenance around the home means it’s a serious fire risk in its current state.
“Random House is a treasured part of Rochester’s history and the community deserve to see the property restored to its original splendour,” Mr Walsh said.
