Transport plan no comfort for regional Victorians
Monday 30 May 2016
A long-term strategy for regional public transport released by the Andrews Labor Government today fails to relieve the misery of regional Victorians still trying to navigate a disruptive and unreliable transport network.
“Rehashed funding promises and undefined long-term strategies will not fix the crisis facing V/Line services,” Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh said.
“The Minister has admitted recent disruptions – train cancellations, overcrowding, replacement buses and wheel wear – have siphoned up to $60 million of taxpayer funds.
“Today’s long-term strategy provides no peace of mind this crisis will soon be resolved.
“There is no timeframe and no new funding.
“It just proves that the further you live from Melbourne, the less you will get from the Andrews Labor Government.”
