Show Your Pride on Australia Day
Tuesday 23 January 2018
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh has urged residents to get involved in their community on Australia Day to celebrate all that is good about life in Australia.
Mr Walsh said January 26 was a chance for everyone to express national pride and to acknowledge our unique culture and lifestyle, our freedoms, our democracy and our diversity.
He said Australia Day provided a special opportunity to celebrate the efforts of those who had helped build the nation, and specifically country Victoria.
“We have an important heritage from our indigenous people which plays a defining role in the landscape.
“Our foundations were built on a necessity to adapt to the land beneath us and to the harsh environmental conditions around us. “
“For my part, I wish to acknowledge all rural and regional people who make up the social and political fabric of contemporary Australia,” he said.
“Country Australians are at the core of what makes our nation great. They are also the future of the nation and its place in the world. “
“Australia Day is more than a public holiday,” Mr Walsh said.
“It’s the one day of the year where we can reflect on our national journey, acknowledge our past, rejoice in the present and look confidently to our future.
“Let’s make the most of this opportunity to get together with family and friends and celebrate all that is great about Australia and being Australian.”
