Water Minister Lisa Neville has been given the hurry up to submit the Mitiamo Pipeline project’s formal application for Commonwealth funding.
Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said he and his Federal colleague Damian Drum had ensured the Prime Minister Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Water Minister are all aware of the project’s importance but the State Government still hadn’t lodged the formal application for funding.
“In Parliament this week I again highlighted this important project and asked Minister Neville to get cracking with her paperwork so the Federal Government can do the assessment as soon as possible” Mr Walsh said.
“The Mitiamo community has worked for years to get this project up and the final step now is for the State Government to finish the formal funding submission so we can secure Commonwealth funds and get the project started.
“The existing dam fill system has had its day and the Mitiamo community is overdue for a reticulated domestic and stock water service.
“Not only will it improve water supplies for around 90 homes in the Mitiamo Tennyson and Dingee areas it will also provide farmers with better quality water for stock drinking and broad acre spraying.
“Minister Neville must prioritise Mitiamo’s submission so we can get this project underway as soon as possible.”
