Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is encouraging community groups including sports clubs local councils and not-for-profit groups to take advantage of the $10 million Community Shade Grant Program which is now open.
The program provides funding to construct new shade purchase portable shade plant a natural shade repair an existing shade or any combination of the four – with $700 per grant able to be used to purchase hats and sunscreen.
Mr Walsh said that outdoor sport and active recreation have an important role to play in the everyday lives of Victorians and with simple modifications in protective clothing and shade provision players and spectators can enjoy the benefits of a safe environment.
“I am positive that all local community organisations could put a portable shade structure and hats and sunscreen to good use and I encourage all to look into this program as a way of achieving that ” he said.
Applications for the second round of the Community Shade Grants Program close on 6 October 2016 with grants to be awarded early in 2017.
