Red P-Platers will receive a $295 discount on their car registration under an elected Nationals Government.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said the initiative was part of The Nationals’ plan to tackle cost of living pressures for local families.
Mr Walsh said households costs had skyrocketed over the last four years under the Andrews Labor Government.
“Families have been slugged with sky-rocketing electricity and gas price hikes as well as 12 new or increased taxes in the last four years under Daniel Andrews” Mr Walsh said.
“Recent reports by the Essential Services Commission show that some Victorians may be paying as much as $1 000 more this year for their electricity or gas.
“For young rural Victorians owning a car is essential when starting in the workforce taking up a trade or further studies.
“About 50 000 Victorians get their red P-Plates each year. This commitment will make a real difference to young people struggling with the extra costs of buying and owning a car and other costs of life after school.”
Mr Walsh said The Nationals would ease the cost of living through better economic management and a series of programs to put more money in the pockets of Victorians.
“We have already announced free school books for all secondary students at public schools which will save families around $2 800 a student throughout secondary school” Mr Walsh said.
“We have also announced that Victorian households will save up to $100 a year on their water bills through better management of the water corporations.
“We are also committed to delivering cheaper gas and electricity bills for over 900 000 low income earners by using ‘˜people power’ to deliver cheaper gas and electricity costs for over 900 000 low income earners that could mean annual savings between $250 and $530.
“Rural Victorians can’t afford four more years of Labor taxes that will put even more pressure on household budgets.”
The $295 discount for red P-Platers is the non-TAC component of registration of car registration. Red P-Platers will effectively only have to pay for the TAC component including compulsory third party insurance.
