Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh has urged Cohuna and district residents to support a petition objecting to the suspension of maternity services at the Cohuna District Hospital.
Mr Walsh said the petition expresses the anger of Cohuna and district residents that the Andrews Labor Government has suspended maternity services at the hospital.
It calls on the government to reinstate full maternity care at the Cohuna District Hospital and support the Cohuna District Hospital to remain a stand alone health service.
Mr Walsh said he attended the hospital’s AGM last week and there was no mention of cutting obstetric services.
“This is yet another example of the Andrews Labor Government riding roughshod over country families without any consultation or consideration to the concern and stress caused to those families.
“I commend the community of Cohuna for their quick action and support for the hospital and I was very pleased but not surprised that hundreds of locals turned out at the protest.”
“This is a crucially important issue for Cohuna and its surrounding communities and I urge the community to sign the petition and make sure your concerns are heard.”
