Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains is encouraging grassroots organisations based in the Swan Hill and Gannawarra Shires to apply for grants of up to $150,000 to access the resources they need to support one another through the ongoing effects of the drought.
Mr Walsh said the Tackling Tough Times Together grant program specifically supports community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit local communities based in drought-affected regions.
He said there are three tiers of grants available:
Up to $20,000 – projects to be finalised within 18 months of approval;
Up to $60,000 – projects to be finalised within 18 months of approval
Up to $150,000 – applications for this tier are by Expression of Interest
Mr Walsh said the program is designed to provide flexible funding that helps to relieve current stressors and symptoms, and most importantly, builds capacity and resilience for the future.
He said all tiers must clearly demonstrate one activity from seven specified activities
- Building community resilience
- Developing organisational resilience and capacity
- Enhancing environmental sustainability
- Fostering cultural vibrancy
- Lifelong learning and education
- Economic Strength
- Improving community health and social wellbeing
“The program is unique to rural communities based in drought-affected regions and offers an opportunity to increase the vibrancy and prosperity of those regions,” Mr Walsh said.
Tackling Tough Times Together is a rolling grants program and applications for Round 15 will be accepted up to 24th October 2019
