The all talk no action Melbourne Labor government has released yet another review
this time asking the public to share their views on road safety.
The government wants you to attend community consultations or provide online feedback
on its towardszero website.
The Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains said if the Melbourne
Labor Government really wanted to make Victoria’s roads safer it should start with
reinstating the $160million Country Roads and Bridges Program and the 10 per cent it
cut from country roads maintenance in the State Budget.
“Nobody would disagree that we need to reduce the state’s road toll and the Liberal
-Nationals Coalition supports efforts do so. Any death or injury on our roads is
one too many “ he said.
“But if Daniel Andrews and his government truly mean what they say they need to
reinstate this roads funding as soon as possible.
“We are talking about money that was directly improving the safety of our country roads
by fixing and preventing hazards such as pot holes and crumbling bitumen.
“It is hypocritical of the Melbourne Labor Government to be developing a strategy to
make our roads safer while at the same time reducing the amount of money available
to maintain and improve country roads.
“I sincerely hope the Towards Zero strategy does not end up as another Melbourne
Labor Government talkfest which delivers nothing for our regional and rural communities.”
