Local Clubs Share in Sports Grants - Gannawarra

15 December 2015

Local sporting clubs will receive funding as part of the first round of VicHealth’s 2015-16 Active Club Grants program.

Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh Nationals Member said the grants help clubs with expenses that are necessary, but sometimes not justifiable through tight budgets.

“It is vital that sporting clubs, which are in many ways the social backbone of our rural communities, are provided with this kind of support, “ Mr Walsh said.

“Research shows that sport builds community pride and loyalty and offers people the chance to get involved, providing them with a positive sense of self-worth.

“These grants aim to make clubs safer and more accessible by funding essential equipment like bats, portable goals, uniforms and balls.”

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said VicHealth was proud to continue to support local sporting organisations..

“VicHealth is committed to addressing the rising obesity levels in Victoria and as part of this, we want to make physical activity participation part of everyday living,” Ms Rechter said.

“Sports and active recreation clubs are a terrific way to get involved in the community, meet new people and keep active for good health.”

The successful clubs are :

Cohuna Pony Club                                     $3,000            jumping equipment

Kerang Amateur Basketball Assoc           $   500            5 first aid kits

“I congratulate the successful clubs and thank the many volunteers who work tirelessly to create great experiences for the people taking part,” Mr Walsh said.
