Liberal Nationals connecting businesses and communities with better regional airports

Tuesday 13 November 2018

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will upgrade airports in Regional Victoria, better connecting country communities and businesses with skills, services and opportunities for growth.

Victoria’s 80 regional airports are a critical link for business, tourism, and emergency services, increasing access to services and providing a fast connection with domestic and global markets.

A Liberal Nationals Government will relaunch the Regional Aviation Infrastructure Fund (RAIF) providing $24 million over four years.

A restored RAIF will provide grants to operators of public use regional airports for upgrades such as improved runways, taxiways, lighting and fuel infrastructure.

Improving regional connectivity, including with better airports, rail and roads, is a key part of the Liberal Nationals’ plan to decentralise our state into a state of cities.

Labor abandoned Regional Victorians when it cut support to regional airports in 2015, leaving a growing backlog of vital airport infrastructure works that need to be completed.

Access to regional airports allows local businesses to expand across Victoria and interstate and brings employment and wealth to regional areas.

Only a Liberal Nationals Government will provide the much-needed investment in airport infrastructure that Regional Victoria deserves.

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will grow all of Victoria, not just Melbourne.

Our regional airports are important gateways for commerce, tourism, and emergency services and we will support them as part of our plan to decentralise our jobs and population throughout Victoria.

A kilometre of road will take you a kilometre. A kilometre of runway can take you anywhere.

Only the Liberal Nationals understand the value of our regional airports. Unlike Labor which abandoned our regional airports, we will work with local communities to help them upgrade these facilities.

Together we can make a difference
