Wednesday 8th February  2017

The Sir John Gorton Swimming Pool Precinct in Kerang and the Cohuna Bowls Club Inc have been successful in securing funding from the Sustainable Water Fund – Community Sport and Recreation Program.

Leader of the Nationals and Member for Murray Plains said the Kerang Swimming Pool Precinct had been awarded $50,000 and the Cohuna Bowls Club $33,777.

“It is fantastic that two local sport and recreational clubs have been able to secure substantial funding to ensure reliable access to water,” Mr Walsh said.

“Sport is the lifeblood of our country communities and this funding is a huge boost to both towns, particularly given the challenges facing many country sporting clubs at the present time,”  he said.

Mr Walsh congratulated the Shire of Gannawarra and the Cohuna Bowls Club for being proactive in attracting the funding.

“They have identified an opportunity improve the management of their water assets and protect the community against the vulnerability of seasonable conditions.

“I congratulate the organisations also for their efforts to provide safe sporting and recreational environments,” Mr Walsh said.
