$10,000 Grant To Light Up Atkinson Park

9 September 2015

The Community Crime Prevention Program will fund solar lighting in the Atkinson Park precinct to prevent anti-social behavior and increase community safety.

Leader of The Nationals and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh congratulated the Shire of Gannawarra for their successful application to the program which has resulted in funding of $10,000 to support the project.

Mr Walsh said that Atkinson Park caters for a variety of community gatherings in Kerang and the Shire of Gannawarra has worked hard to consistently improve the facilities and encourage increased use of this popular public space.

“The solar lighting project is a tremendous community- identified initiative which will serve the double purpose of improving community confidence in the safety of the park and deterring vulnerable groups at risk of offending or victimisation,” he said.

The Community Safety Fund was developed under the former Coalition Government as part of the community crime prevention agenda but funding has only been continued for this year under the Melbourne Labor Government.

“It is an important program to make our communities safer and should remain a very high priority for this government,” Mr Walsh said.
